Florence: Today we will take a city tour of Florence. We will visit; the Arno River, neighboring Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery and Pitti Palace. Visit Florence's oldest building, the Romanesque Bapitistry, adorned with pink, white and green marble. Ghiberti competed with other artists for the right to sculpt the finely detailed bronze doors, called the “Gates of Paradise,” designed by fellow artist Michelangelo. One of the oldest buildings in Florence, it was initially the city's cathedral. The interior of this building is just as beautiful as the exterior. The walls are covered in marble and ancient Roman columns stand below a blazing mosaic ceiling. In the center, there is an empty octagon marking the altar where children born in the past year were baptized on New Year's Eve.
